Sports and healthcare specialist agency Henman Communications has been retained by anti-gravity treadmill manufacturer AlterG Europe to manage their Pan-European PR programme.
AlterG, based in Fremont, California, in the US, manufacture and distribute the world’s only anti-gravity treadmill. The unique anti-gravity technology was developed by NASA and tested at Nike’s Oregon Research Project by America’s top distance runners and is the only device of its kind.
The AlterG treadmill enables patients to run and walk without bearing their entire weight, reducing the impact on the body to optimize rehabilitation and physical therapy outcomes. Its Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology applies a lifting force to the body that reduces weight on the lower extremities and allows precise un-weighting, of up to 80% of a person’s body weight, so people can find exactly where the pain stops and natural movement feels good again.
Andrew Caudell, General Manager for AlterG Europe commented: “We are delighted to be working with the team at Henman Communications to help us build our profile in the key UK and European media. Henman Communications are also retained by one of our UK partners Balance Performance Physiotherapy so they have specialist PR experience and contacts in the sports rehabilitation, performance and physiotherapy sectors.”
The Alter-G treadmill can be used for physical therapy and surgical recovery. The treadmills are also used in the sports sector by a large number of elite athletes at Premiership football and rugby clubs in the UK and Europe including Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Newcastle Falcons and Leicester Tigers. Other customers include health & Leisure club operators, private hospital groups, military rehabilitation units, sport physiotherapists, personal trainers and sports coaches. In the US, the AlterG is used by Olympic runners; US athletic programmes for the NFL, MLB and NBA teams; Collegiate and University sports programmes; as well as at the US Olympic Training Centre.
Andrew Caudell added: “I am very excited about this year. Our PR initiatives will create media-driven editorial articles to support our key sales distribution territories across Europe, including the UK, Ireland and Germany. Our long term commercial aims are for the AlterG brand to become embedded into the rehabilitation practice for a broad spectrum of medical conditions and post-operative care in the medical and healthcare sectors.
“There are a multitude of benefits when training and rehabilitating on the AlterG. Patients can use the treadmill to recover from injury and surgery, and it allows them to immediately do partial weight bearing exercises. Patients with neurological disorders maintain, and in some cases even regain, functionality and mobility working with the AlterG. It is also used as a motivational tool for obese patients, as users can immediately experience what it would feel like to weigh less, exercise with less joint impact and stress, and improve their cardiovascular health.”
In the US, AlterG has more than 20 clinical studies ongoing in orthopaedic, neurologic and biomechanics areas, with key medical advisors including Dr Brian Cole, the head team physician for the Chicago Bulls and co-team physician for the Chicago White Sox; Dr Bert R. Mandelbaum, a lead physician for the for the US World Cup Team; Christopher M. Powers, an associate professor in the department of biokinesiology and physical therapy at University of Southern California; Dr Amol Saxena, a podiatrist who currently serves as a member of the US Track and Field medical staff; and Kevin Wilk, PT, DPT, clinical director for Champion Sports Medicine and rehabilitation consultant for the Tampa Bay Rays.
